Watchkeeping

Watchkeepers come from all walks of life with only the minority having experience of the sea in a professional capacity.

At present the Station is fully manned by 60 volunteers and recruits are added to the waiting list and will be informed when a vacancy arises.

Volunteers are given relevant training.

Watches are for a period of 3 or 4 hours during daylight hours only.  During the summer the station is manned between 8am and 8pm and during the winter months between 8am and 5pm.

Fund Raising

The NCI operates entirely on a voluntary basis and each station is required to procure its own funding. We are fortunate at our Station as Mt Edgcumbe Country Park has provided the lookout station building, but funds are still needed for the daily running of the station, such as administration costs, telephone bills and maintaining and updating watch keeping equipment.

Shorewatch

This is a support group for the National Coastwatch Institution. All money collected is used to open more Stations around the coast and so increase the vital work of the Charity. As a member of Shorewatch, you will receive the Newsletter on a regular basis – individual subscription is only £15.00 per year.
